ABOUT

We are a poetry and arts journal based in New York City, hoping to reconnect the literary canon with today's world in innovative and daring ways. We hope to spotlight the global and historical essence of writing as it's evolving.

Our name, "Pato" is the Portuguese word for "Duck". In the essence of this animal, we strive to explore duality. We aim to publish both the familiar and foreign, the ancient and contemporary, to create a collaborative portfolio of art and writing that is simultaneously aware of its past and free from restraint.

We are looking for new and inventive writing and art that explores the human condition as well as the idea of a global literary canon. While we will accept work in any genre, we are most concerned with what is grounded in human life and tradition.

We encourage translations from a variety of authors, languages, and time periods. We are looking for translations that skillfully portray thoughtful works and reflect the self-awareness of literature in translation.

We are also looking for volunteer staff members to help us grow. If you would like to get involved in the selection and editing process, please email me at
