Home Again

Poetry by Peter Mladinic

Home Again

I left home.

The River Rats are a gang I’m with.

We are:

leather jacket

surgeon

mask

shades

hurricane

nails

doll

lanyard

and rat.

Home again,

I look out a window at the river,

the other side,

trees,

brick buildings on a hill.

My tongue licks my teeth’s silver fillings.

I talk to walls

about water,

obstacles as friends.

Peter Mladinic's fifth book of poems, Voices from the Past, is available from Better Than Starbucks Publications. An animal rights advocate, he lives in Hobbs, New Mexico, United States.
